Kuwait Vernacular Architecture - Workshop

SAK Co. recently delivered a one-day workshop titled “The Little Designer Journey – Stop One: Kuwait Vernacular Architecture” in collaboration with the Kuwait National Library. The workshop targeted students between the ages of 11 and 15, introducing them to the fundamentals of architecture, the principles of sustainable design, and the rich heritage of Kuwait’s traditional architectural identity.

The workshop aimed to help students understand how architecture responds to climate, culture, and community needs. Through interactive discussions, they explored the essence of Kuwaiti vernacular architecture, including elements such as courtyards, wind towers, shading strategies, natural ventilation, and the smart use of local materials. These concepts were presented in an accessible and engaging way to highlight how traditional design solutions can inspire modern sustainable buildings.

In the hands-on portion of the workshop, students designed and built their own modular house models, integrating what they had learned about sustainability and vernacular principles. Using simple materials, they created small-scale structures that reflected thoughtful planning, creativity, and an understanding of environmental responsiveness. Their models demonstrated an impressive ability to translate architectural ideas into physical representation.

The workshop concluded with a sense of excitement and pride in the students’ achievements. Their creativity and engagement showcased the potential of young learners when given the opportunity to design, explore, and build. SAK Co. is proud of its collaboration with the Kuwait National Library on this meaningful educational initiative and remains committed to supporting programs that inspire the next generation of designers and environmentally conscious thinkers.
